Overlooked

I think that I have to join in the recent pleas for Scottish director Bill Forsyth – to make movies again. His older movies might be hard to find, but there are some real gems.

The library has on DVD Gregory’s Girl and Local Hero.

On video, the library still has a copy of Comfort and Joy – although who knows how long that old VHS will last. And don’t I wish that I could watch That Sinking Feeling again!

Anyone, looking for quirky & charming … try something mentioned above.

Btw, I never have seen the movie Housekeeping, but critics say it’s really good.

Craving Cranford

Just have to ask – is anyone watching Cranford on Masterpiece Theatre?

What’s the verdict? I really like it, and feel a little addicted. I can’t wait for the next installment. That Judi Dench! This might lead me to the books, since I have never read anything by Elizabeth Gaskell.

The library has the DVD ordered, if you have missed the first episodes, or want to watch it again.

The Catbus: Yours for only $2900

Hayao Miyazaki is regarded as the anime director for those who don’t really like anime. For those who do enjoy anime, he’s regarded as a lesser deity. One person has taken his devotion to a very particular extreme and made this:

Yep, that’s the Catbus, from the Miyazaki classic My Neighbor Totoro. And the person who made it is selling it on Craigslist for less than 3 grand.

Even if driving a fur covered van with a kitty face isn’t your cup of tea (or saucer of milk, as the case my be), you can’t go wrong with a Miyazaki classic. Check one out from the Library (I’m partial to Spirited Away, myself), and you’ll quickly find out why he’s known as the “Walt Disney of Japan.”
