Digging for a perfect Ten

diggers1.jpgThe Ten

Has anyone seen the movie The Ten? Confession here – I feel a bit little guilty about liking this movie as much as I did. Some of it definitely pushes the limits of poor taste or politically incorrect humor. Certain sketches work better than others. But I was hooked, wondering what outrageous interpretation of the Ten Commandments was next. I can see how people could get offended by this movie.

If you are interested in an earlier collaboration between Paul Rudd and Ken Marino (writer for both movies & acted in both), check out the movie Diggers - totally different from The Ten. It is a drama about friends & family relationships, set in the 1970s about Long Island clam diggers experiencing many changes in their personal and professional lives.

“Gort! Klaatu barada nikto!”

With the recent death of Arthur C. Clarke, author of 2001: A Space Odyssey, I ‘ve been thinking about some of the science fiction movies that stand out for me. Some favorites include the Matrix trilogy, Gattaca, Dark City, the Star Trek NG stuff, and my personal favorite from when I was a kid, the Last Star Fighter. My favorite older SF film is probably the Day the Earth Stood Still.

What are your favorites?

Under the radar – maybe, check out Ciarán Hinds

Having just seen the Irish actor Ciaran Hinds co-starring in the movie Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, I started to think how much I like him in romantic roles. Persuasion, in which he plays Captain Wentworth, is one of my favorite movies. I recently watched the 1997 Jane Eyre, and he plays Edward Rochester. Mr. Hinds is wonderful in both. He may not star in more “romantic” movies any time soon – but check out some other movies he’s in, even if it’s a small role (and unromantic). If anyone has other recommendations, pass them on.

Summary and reviews I really, really love this movie!

Young, Talented and Scottish

That’s James McAvoy.  Summary and reviews

If you’ve seen him recently in Atonement or Penelope, check out some of his earlier work available on DVD from the Library. And he’s starring in a new movie called Wanted, opening in theaters this summer (co-starring Angelina Jolie).  Definitely someone to watch!
