Tasty, Tasty TiVo
The act of watching television used to be a very straightforward act. You check the listings, you clear your schedule, and you watch what’s on as it airs. You might record it for later playback, but that a skill with another tool – the VCR. If you can’t get it to stop flashing “12:00,” you’re out of luck.
TiVo – or Digital Video Recorder, if you want to use the generic term - changed all that. People could make their own decisions about what they wanted to watch and when. And that little set-top box made doing so as easy as changing the channel. This is what is referred to as a “disruptive technology” – a simple adaptation of an existing tool that changes one’s preconceptions of the original concept.
Having changed the way we watch TV, TiVo now seeks to change the way we eat cookies. Say good-bye to the traditional round shape, and say hello to the TiVo-shaped cookie.
If you’re willing to turn over your contact information (though you can opt-out of recieving any TiVo-related email), you can get your very own TiVo cooke cutter. All for free.
Standard disclaimers apply, while supplies last, and all that fun stuff. While you’re waiting for it to arrive, take a look at some of our TiVo guides, and see just how much you can do with your DVR.
