Digital Media Lab: Now Open!

Skokie Public Library Digital Media Lab

After many months of planning, the Library’s new Digital Media Lab (DML), is now open to the public! Located near the center of the Library on the 1st floor, this new computer lab offers adult Skokie Public Library cardholders four new Mac desktops loaded with all kinds of creative software. Here are a few things you can do in the lab:

  • Check out a Flip video camera to shoot video footage, edit that footage using iMovie or Final Cut Studio, and then upload it right to YouTube.
  • Create original music using Garage Band software (complete with Jam Packs), a digital keyboard, and a microphone.
  • Scan old print photographs and create a slideshow using your new digital copies.
  • Design images, posters, flyers, brochures, and business cards using Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Premium software.
  • Borrow a digital camera and create fun photographs using our green screen wall.
  • Piece together a slick presentation using Keynote software from iWork 09.
  • Talk to friends and family using Skype or iChat (all of our DML computers have built-in webcams).

If any of this sounds appealing to you, stop by the Digital Media Lab today! If you need help learning how to use a Mac and some of the software or equipment, please let our technology assistants know and we’ll arrange for a 1-on-1 or small group training session.
