The Hallowed Ones

This book called The Hallowed Ones by Laura Bickle, is definitely an interesting read! It’s about an Amish teenage girl named Katie, who is really excited to go on Rumspringa with her best friend Elijah (Rumspringa is normally around the ages 14 to 16 and is when people leave their community to experience life in the outside world. Rumspringa ends when the person chooses to be baptised within the Amish Church or decides to leave the community for good). Katie’s dreams get crushed when no one is allowed to go beyond the gate or invite anyone in because a plague starts spreading and killing ⅔ of the population. The community goes under quarantine since the plague is turning people into wild killing beasts!

Everyone knows that Elijah and Katie are meant to be together. Katie was okay with the idea until Elijah’s brothers went missing and Elijah decided to be baptized. Because of Elijah’s actions he can no longer go on Rumspringa with her. Also Katie sees an injured man right outside of the gate and wants to help really badly, so she disobeys orders and soon starts to have feelings for the stranger that she didn’t have for Elijah.

Katie’s community lives on holy ground. The people believe that no beasts can enter the ground unless invited in. Someone had invited in some beasts and the beasts are now killing people in the community. Who invited the beast in? What is going to happen if someone finds Alex? Is Katie going to marry Elijah? You’ll have to read to find out!

I recommend this book to people who enjoy gruesome things and people who are looking for some sort of love story. I also recommend this book to someone who has watched the movies Quarantine I and/or II. The Hallowed Ones by Laura Brickle is not to be missed!
