Week 1: The Big Idea
July 22, 2011 30 CommentsMandatory bootcamp meeting Wednesday, , August 17th. We’ll be talking about your ideas for this project and answering any questions you may have going into it.
Before the cameras roll, before you’ve scouted your first location, before you’ve even written a script, you’ve got to have an idea for your library video. If you can come up with a good message for the viewer, you can use that message as a litmus test for all the nitty-gritty details of your video.
What constitutes a good idea for a video? You’re free to use your imagination here, but since these videos will be for public consumption we do require that they tie into the Library’s mission. This could include:
- A review of an item in the collection
- A “how-to” of a particular piece of equipment
- An interview with a patron or other member of the library community
- A recap of a library program or event
- “Behind-the-scenes” footage of a particular library activity
Or you could come up with something of your own. The important thing is that it conveys something that might be of interest to our patrons, and that it’s a topic that you are enthusiastic about.
We have created a brief questionnaire that you’ll use to propose your video concept, and help frame the key message you’d like your viewers to take away from the clip. Which brings us to your first assignment!
Your tasks for the week: (approximate time: 1.5 hours including meeting time)
1. Come up with an idea as to what you’d like to feature in your video.
2. Attend the planning session on Wednesday, August 17th.
3. Fill out the video proposal form. We’ll sign off on it and send you on to Week 2.
Once we’ve given your proposal the green light, please post your video title in the comments here so other staff can see what you’re working on.
