Janet Evanovich’s Barnaby and Hooker Take on New Form

That’s right, the adventures of Sam Hooker, NASCAR driver, and female mechanic Alex Barnaby, who first appeared in the novels Metro Girl and Motor Mouth, can now be read in graphic novel form.  Says Evanovich, she always intended for these books to be written as graphic novels.  A life-long reader of comics, she thought the sun-drenched Miami setting, the car chases, and the St. Bernard dog were perfect for the large color drawings of a graphic novel.

The two volume set is a collaboration with daughter Alex Evanovich, and artist Joelle Jones.  It’s hard work, says Evanovich, condensing a story to less than 100 pages and few words.  Of course many of the drawings speak many words.  And while I don’t doubt that it’s hard work making a graphic novel, the result is delightfully entertaining.
